Table of Contents

A UPS keeps your computer running long enough to save your work and shut down safely when the power goes.

Work out your load

Add up the wattage of your PC and monitor, then choose a UPS rated about 30% higher. A typical office PC needs a 650–850 VA unit.

Backup time

Most small UPS units give 10–20 minutes. For longer backup, choose an online UPS with external batteries.

Line-interactive or online?

Line-interactive is fine for homes and offices. Online UPS gives cleaner power for servers and sensitive equipment.
